Prices start at just £50 for a poem like this in Gothic lettering, with an illuminated initial letter and swirling calligraphy border in colours of your choice.

The swirling border is painted with a calligraphy pen for the fine lines, to give a beautifully delicate feel to the design. The detail is all painted by hand by our calligrapher, in coloured and metallic paints.

The illuminated calligraphy letter is handpainted by our calligrapher. The background works very well in any rich colour: red or burgundy, emerald green, velvety purple or deep royal blue look amazing.

The letter itself and the swirling detail around it can be illustrated in gold, silver or copper metallic paint.

Here the illuminated letter is painted in metallic gold, on a rich red background. The letter is in a gothic calligraphy style (you can choose a more modern capital letter if you wish).

The letter is highlighted by raised bumps of gold paint, and swirling gold curls are painted at key points to fill the red space.

Around the edge of the illuminated letter are more painted gold dots to create a 'frame' for the illumination.

This piece was framed in a lovely rustic walnut frame which added to the antique effect overall. If you ask us to frame your calligraphy poem we will leave a reasonable space between the poem and the frame, or we will choose a complementary mount if it fits the design.
