Italic calligraphy styles for poems
Classic italic calligraphy - the most popular style for poems
Italics are easy to read and elegant in style. The traditional italic calligraphy style is bold and not overly decorative.
The majority of our calligraphy commissions are written in italic calligraphy. This lettering looks lovely with neutral colour schemes - chocolate, coffee and gold suit it beautifully.
Copperplate calligraphy - a romantic, swirly calligraphy style
Copperplate flows from the calligraphy pen like a dream. It's a luxurious, swirling style which became popular across Europe in the 19th century.
Copperplate is perfect for romantic poems and wedding anniversary presents.
Simple Italic calligraphy - a lighter, straighter italic letter style
Elegant lettering for a smooth, uncluttered finish to all of your stationery. This slimline calligraphy flows across the page and is a pleasure to read.
It works very well in darker colours and is popular for wedding readings and modern poetry. Tall letters ('ascenders') and long letters ('descenders') are straight and tapered with a very slight curve.
Cinderella calligraphy - a popular italic style with bold, sexy curves
Cinderella is our own style, bold and romantic with curls and rounded letters. Cinderella calligraphy uses thick pen strokes for a striking effect.
The letters h, m and n have a distinctive rounded shape. The descenders on g, j, p and y have a loop at the end and the S finishes with a thin curl - we like to think of it as a fairytale ending!
Curly calligraphy - a variation on italics, with more rounded shapes
Curly calligraphy has curvy letters and incorporates flourishes . A light style of italic lettering, with an overall curvy effect on the page, curly calligraphy is our own style and is wonderful for longer poems.
Tall letters ('ascenders') curve forwards, and the bowl (the round bit in an o or a d, for example) is more rounded than in normal italic calligraphy.
