Gothic calligraphy styles for poems
Gothic calligraphy - stunning, structured letter shapes for poems
Gothic calligraphy was used in Europe in the 14th and 15th centuries, and was developed in many variations with very ornate letter forms.
It works very well with rich, elaborate borders: our swirling border designs in red and gold have complemented our gothic calligraphy lettering beautifully.
The Gothic lettering style is very rigid and straight, with ornate flicks from some letters. The capitals are a real feature in this calligraphy style, wtih swirls, strokes and sweeps of the pen combining to make the most wonderful shapes.
Antique calligraphy - a formal, easy to read and very strking style
This calligraphy style evolved from the true Gothic calligraphy styles of the 15th century, and is French in origin. It's a mixture of Italics and Gothic - for this reason it's also known as Bâtarde. Highly recommended for any poem.
We love the flow and rhythm of this indulgent calligraphy style.
Use this style where you'd really like your commission to focus on the calligraphy as the main design element. Complement the lettering with a border illustration in muted colours or a swirling pattern
